Samson

“You will conceive and give birth to a son. No razor may be used n his head, because the boy is to be a Nazarite, set apart to God from birth, and he will begin the deliverance of Israel from the hands of the Philistines” Judges 13:5

Do you know anyone who started out really well, but his decisions in life caused him a great downfall? It is sad to be remembered for what one might have been and Samson was one of those people. He had credentials that were not ordinary. He delivered the nation of Israel from a great opponent, the Philistine army, and was known for his remarkable strength. He  also fulfilled the plans that the Lord had for him as a judge. But in the midst of his greatness, the way he lived his life showed how he abused the gifts that God gave him and how he violated God’s laws on many occasions.

Towards the end of his life, Samson declared that God was the source of his strength as he prayed, “O Sovereign Lord, remember me. O God, please strengthen me just once more, and let me with one blow get revenge on the Philistines for my two eyes.”  God honored his request and God showed his love for him despite his failures. God used him one final time and by Samson’s strength, he was able to kill more men than he did while he lived (Judges 16:30)

Samson’s life reminds us to be mindful of the choices we make and how we live our lives. Though it is never too late to start all over again and that “all things work together for good” (Romans 8:28), finishing strong is a testimony to others of our faith, obedience, and loyalty to the Lord.

Application:

Is there anything in your life that God is convicting you to stop doing now as it is getting in the way of His plans for you? Confess and ask the Lord for guidance. Ask for godly counsel and connect with Him daily.
